Bob Doxsey was at worst, the second-best fast-pitch softball pitcher in the last 60 years in Findlay. His prowess on the mound would rank him right behind Diz Kirkendall. Doxsey, whose career spanned 40 years, pitched in (and won) the state fast-pitch tournament as a 17-year-old for the Findlay Moose in 1963 against Dayton National Cash Register. In 1969, the fire-balling right hander compiled a 27-2 record for Fremont and a 12-3 record for Findlay. Along the way, Doxsey defeated the defending national champion, Detroit Birch Steel, in a 1961 doubleheader. He had countless no-hitters and one-hitters as well as several games where he recorded over 15 strikeouts. The remainder of his feats are legendary. He was always very competitive and a feared hitter during a stellar career. Doxsey was always the best pitcher on the best team in the area, and his reputation was known statewide.
