

Brad McVetta is the first open water swimmer to be inducted into the Hancock Sports Hall of Fame. A 1991 Cory-Rawson graduate, Brad lettered in football (3), basketball (1) and track (2). In September of 2011 he completed the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming: Manhattan Island Marathon, 28.5 miles; Catalina Channel, 20 miles; English Channel, 21 miles. At the time there had been just four other swimmers to have completed this feat in one calendar year. Brad’s resume of swims includes the Tsugaru Channel in Japan, International Holiday of the North in 0oC water in Russia, the Winter Swimming Championships in 0oC water in Finland, the crossing of Cook’s Strait in New Zealand, the North Channel in Northern Ireland, the 20 Bridges Manhattan Island Swim, and many others. In August 2023, he swam 21.3 miles across Lake Tahoe in 15 hours, 41 minutes. Brad is also a founding member of the United States Winter Swimming Association and the co-organizer of the first Winter Swimming Championship in Lake Memphremagog, Vermont. Brad and his wife Rasheeda live in NYC where he is a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst at Carepoint Health System.
