Brian “Bubba” Taylor is one of the most decorated wrestlers and athletes in University of Findlay history, winning three consecutive NAIA national wrestling titles from 1995 to 1997. After a season at Ohio State University, Taylor came to the University of Findlay in the fall of 1994 in time to help lead the Roughnecks to their only national wrestling title in March 1995. In the 142-pound championship match, he defeated two-time defending champ John Melling of Simon Fraser University 7-5. Taylor added consecutive national titles in the 150-pound class in 1996 and 1997. He finished his three-year UF wrestling career with an 86-16 won-loss record, winning incredible 84 percent of his matches. He is a 1991 graduate of Clyde High School where he was an undefeated state champion as a senior. As he did later in college, Bubba defeated a defending champion to earn his title. Taylor has been inducted into the NAIA Wrestling and the University of Findlay Athletic halls of fame. He just completed his 19thyear as a UF assistant coach. During that time, the Roughnecks have produced nine Top 10 finishes in NAIA and NCAA DII wrestling championships, 10 individual national champions and more than 50 All-Americans.
