Bud Tesnow was a fast-pitch softball pitcher for over four decades, ending a 33-year career in 1979. After hurling the 1945 Bud team to a base championship at the Jacksonville Naval Air Station, Tesnow began pitching locally following WWII.
Over 33 seasons, he hurled teams to several state tournaments along with numerous city, district and regional championships. Tesnow’s best season was in 1953 when he fashioned an unprecedented 55-7 record. He logged several no-hitters and one perfect game, for many seasons teaming with Bob Doxsey to form a very formidable two-man pitching staff.
His athletic endeavors also included football, basketball and boxing. Tesnow boxed while in the Navy and he played quarterback as well on a veteran’s football team in 1946. Tesnow was a generous man, sponsoring bowling, softball and basketball teams while in private business. He was one of the most respected men in local amateur sports and was a great teammate to all those who played alongside him.
