

Byron Morgan Jr., a 1967 Findlay College graduate, lettered four years in football while playing for his father during the mid-60s. Morgan was a 1967 NAIA All-American punter and defensive back, Oilers’ MVP and outstanding defensive back in 1966, a 3-time NAIA District 22 punter and defensive back before being drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in 1967. He still holds career interception and punting records at UF.
Over the past 21 years, Morgan has compiled a 135-77-3 record during a 14-year stint as head coach at Mayfield and Solon. His Mayfield teams were 77-61-3 in 14 seasons and won two Greater Cleveland Conference titles. The 1984 squad went undefeated, was the state’s No.4-ranked team and won a regional playoff crown. At Solon, four of Morgan’s teams have been ranked in the top 10 and his 1996 squad advanced to the playoff’s Final Four.
He is a 3-time Northeast Ohio Coach of the Year, and his teams have a 58-16 record over the past seven seasons.
