

Chad Keller was the dominant player on Van Buren’s successful basketball teams in 1985 and 1986, becoming an AP all-Ohio Player of the Year in helping the Black Knights advance to the OHSAA state tournament during both seasons. Keller scored 1,743 career points and grabbed 1,011 career rebounds, leading the Black Knights to a 74-6 record over his last three seasons of varsity play. One of the top basketball players in northwest Ohio during that span, Keller was also a two-time all-Ohio, all-Northwest and all-District 8 first-team selection. He averaged 25.5 points and 13.4 rebounds per game as a senior, 20 points and 11.8 rebounds during his junior season and 15.6 points and 10.6 rebounds as a sophomore. Keller was also a 2-time Blanchard Valley Conference Player of the Year and a 3-time all-BVC performer. Keller went on to be a three-year performer at the University of Toledo. He finished with 1,086 points in 106 games and ranks fifth all-time in UT career field goal shooting (.549 percent). His .644 shooting percentage in 1987-88 ranks third all-time.
