Fo rthe past 26 years, Dr. Charles H. Spragg has been synonymous with local golf programs as an organizer, a director and a participant. Spragg was one of the principal founders of the highly successful Findlay Area Golf Association, which promotes amateur golf in the Findlay area with an emphasis on the junior programs. As president of FAGA since 1975, he has seen the organization’s summer tournament schedule provide a foundation for the development and success of local high school teams. His organizational skills led to the formation of the Jim Herrin Cancer Benefit in the mid-1970s and the introduction of the Julie Cole Charity Golf Benefit in 1990. With Spragg as its chairman, the Julie Cole event has provided over $50,000 a year for three local charities. Four distinct highlights of Spragg’s golfing career include playing the Old Course at St. Andrews, winning back-to-back Findlay Country Club men’s championships in 1994 and 1995, three days of golf at The Augusta National Golf Club, which is the site of the Masters, and qualifying for the 1995 United States Golf Association Senior Amateur championship. Spragg also serves as a trustee at the Findlay Country Club and the University of Findlay as well as other professional organizations. When not engaged in his favorite “hobby”, he owns and operates a general dental practice in Findlay.
