Cindy Morehead has coached the University of Findlay’s Western Intercollegiate Horse Show Association team to the top of the collegiate equestrian world since 2005. During her tenure, the university’s western teams won five national championships and have earned at least a tie for three reserve titles. Findlay has also collected four national and two reserve championships in high-point rider competition in the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA). In addition, Findlay team members have won 24 individual undergraduate western class titles since 2005. Individual champions have included Morehead’s daughter, Katie, a 2010 graduate who was AQHA national champion in 2008—when she was also the university’s athlete of the year—and Open Western Horsemanship national champion in 2009. Morehead was an instructor in Findlay’s western equestrian studies program for 38 years, beginning with its founding in 1977. The champion coach has also been a respected rider, clinician, judge and trainer. In the latter role, she has produced numerous All-American Quarter Horse Congress winners and top 10 placers, as well as world show qualifiers. She is a longtime director of the Ohio Quarter Horse Association.
