Craig Aukerman was a multisport standout at McComb High School and an All-American football player at the University of Findlay before moving on to a coaching career that has led to the NFL and, in 2013, the San Diego Chargers. Aukerman was the Blanchard Valley Conference Player of the Year in both football and basketball as a senior at McComb in 1994-95. That same year, he was a second-team All-Ohio defensive back in Division VI. He was a first-team All-BVC selection three times in football and basketball—and once in track—and lettered four years in baseball. He was a four-year letterman as a defensive back and wide receiver at the University of Findlay, where he was twice named an NAIA All-American and was a member of the 1997 national-champion Oilers. Aukerman earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Findlay in 1999 and returned the following year to start his career in coaching, as the Oilers’ wide receiver’s coach. He then served for two years as a graduate assistant at Miami (Ohio) before coaching linebackers for two years at Western Kentucky, four years back at Miami and one season at Kent State. He entered the NFL in 2010 as a defensive assistant for the Denver Broncos and spent the 2011 and 2012 seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
