Dale Gillespie

Dale Gillespie was a three-sport letterman at Findlay College during the late 1950s, etching his name in the school’s baseball and football record books and competing as a four-event performer in track. The 1959 FC graduate had 18 career touchdowns, 900-plus yards in a season and returned a punt an FC record 90 yards. He was the seventh leading rusher and eighth leading scorer on NAIA statistical lists and earned Little All-American honorable mention and team MVP honors in 1955.

The all-around athlete established a 40-year-old baseball record with a hefty .951 slugging percentage in 1956. He batted .415 and .393 in 1956 and 1957 with 8 career home runs. He competed in the shot put, discus, low hurdles and 880-yard relay in track. Gillespie, a native of Oregon, Ohio, played military and semi-pro football, coached three years at Otsego, was a 23-year fast-pitch softball player, managed Little League baseball, served five terms on Findlay City Council and retired after 28 years in the electronics industry. He is an inductee of the 1979 Clay High School and 1983 University of Findlay Hall of Fame.
