

Dave Egbert was a charter member of the Hancock Sports Hall of Fame. It was his goal to develop an organization to honor all past, present and future athletes in Hancock County. He spent countless hours researching and writing the bylaws and guidelines of the Hall of Fame and was responsible for the shrine’s beginning 15 years ago. After a year and a half as a general assignment reporter, Egbert joined the Republican-Courier sports staff in 1971. He covered Findlay High athletics and won numerous sports writing honors through the 1970s. Egbert was named Ohio Prep Sportswriter Association Writer of the Year in 1977 and 1979. In 1979, he received first place, two second-place awards, a third and a fourth-place award from the OPSWA. He was named the OPSWA best sports columnist in 1974, 1977 and 1978, was honored for the best news story in 1977 and was selected for the top sports feature award in 1974, 1975 and 1976. Egbert, a 1966 Findlay High graduate, received his bachelor’s degree in journalism from Bowling Green State University in 1970. He died in 1990.
