As an all-Ohio quarterback, Dave Wilson led Findlay High to a 10-0 regular season record and its first-ever state gridiron playoff appearance in 1975 before coming an All-American at Ball State University. At FHS, Wilson was all-Buckeye Conference in basketball (1975) and baseball (1975 & 1976) as a shortstop and helped lead the Trojans to the best regular-season record (29-0) in school history. He earned a total of 7 varsity letters. The 1980 Ball State graduate set numerous records and led the Cardinals to a pair of Mid-American Conference titles, earning all-conference honors twice and became the first sophomore to be named the school’s MVP in 1979. In 1977, Wilson led the nation in passing efficiency and was ranked fifth on the NCAA’s all-time list. Wilson joined the Athletes in Action staff in 1980 and was the driving force behind establishing an athletic ministry at the University of Nebraska. In 1985, he earned a Master of Divinity degree from the International School of Theology and became the first student in the school’s history to claim three of the seminary’s four special honors: President’s Award for Dynamic Spiritual Leadership, Chancellor’s Award in Evangelism and Discipleship, and Dean’s Award in Expository Preaching. Wilson then became the youngest chaplain in the National Football League for the Detroit Lions. He is a member of the Ball State Hall of Fame.
