

David Litzenberg was an All-Ohio baseball player at Findlay High School who went on to earn Academic All-American honors at Bowling Green State University. Litzenberg was Findlay’s second baseman in 1976 and 1977, helping the Trojans claim consecutive Buckeye Conference championships and state semifinal appearances. Findlay went 29-1 in 1976 and 24-4 in 1977, when he batted .386. He played in the Ohio State All-Star Series in 1977, collecting the game-winning RBI in one game and scoring the winning run in another as the North swept the South in the four-game series. Litzenberg was also named to consecutive Buckeye American Legion all-star games in 1976 and 1977, and to the district all-star team in 1977, when he led the Findlay Legion team in hitting. Litzenberg graduated in the top 10 of his high school class and earned an academic scholarship at BGSU, where he also became a four-year member of the baseball team and a starter as a senior in 1981. That year, he was the Falcons’ MVP, as well as first-team all-academic in the Mid-American Conference and the NCAA Midwest District and a second-team NCAA Academic All-American. BGSU’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year for 1980-81, Litzenberg was a Rhodes Scholar nominee who graduated summa cum laude with a degree in mathematics and computer science.
