David Rieker

David Rieker was a basketball standout at Findlay High School, culminating with his selection as a first-team Class AAA all-Ohioan by the Associated Press as a senior in 1978-79. Rieker was the Buckeye Conference and Northwest Ohio Player of the Year in Class AAA that season. He led the Trojans in scoring and rebounding as they compiled an 18-2 record, won the conference title and were ranked fifth in the final AP poll. His team’s scoring and rebounding leader as a junior as well, Rieker earned second-team all-conference honors that year as Findlay went 16-7 and reached the regional tournament. He is sixth on the high school’s career rebounding list (473) and 18th in career scoring (720 points). Rieker continued his basketball career at the University of Toledo, where he was a member of two Mid-American Conference championship teams, played in the NCAA tournament and advanced to the NIT sweet 16. Rieker has a master’s degree in special education and is a special-needs high school teacher in Toledo. He has served as head boys coach at Cardinal Stritch, head girls coach at Toledo St. Ursula Academy and a varsity assistant at Toledo St. Francis and Maumee as well as officiating basketball.
