After his professional career, he returned to Findlay and played for semi-pro and local teams into his early 40s. He also coached the Findlay College baseball team for several years in the 1930s. His 1939 team compiled the best winning percentage (.823) of any college in Ohio, with a 14-4 record while beating Toledo, Kent State and Bowling Green. Drake, who was born in Girard, Ohio, served as a scout for several major league teams until the 1950s. He signed Findlay’s Forest ‘Tot’ Pressnell to a professional contract.
