Dick Strahm, who has served 13 seasons as Findlay College’s head football coach, was named the NAIA Division II Coach of Year after his team won the 1979 national championship. A four-time Hoosier-Buckeye Conference and five-time NAIA District 22 Coach of the Year, Strahm is among the top 10 winningest active coaches in Division II football over the past five seasons.
The Oilers have ranked among the top five teams in winning percentage over the past 10 seasons. Strahm’s teams won seven Hoosier-Buckeye titles in 10 years, went undefeated in 1978 and 1985, and advanced to the Division II playoffs in 1978, ’79, ’83, ’84 and ’85. Findlay was national runner-up in 1978 and advanced to the semifinals in 1985.
Strahm has posted a 91-34-2 record at Findlay College, after a 70-19-1 record as a 10-year high school coach. He also had a three-year coaching stint at the University of Toledo and two years at Kansas State. Toledo won three straight Tangerine Bowls, twice led the nation in total defense and fashioned a 35-game winning streak while Strahm was on the staff. He graduated from Toledo Libbey and earned a bachelor’s degree at Eastern Michigan and a master’s at Toledo.
