Gladys Winkle

Gladys Winkle has been associated with bowling over the past four decades as a competitor and proprietor. The longtime Hancock County resident recorded a high game of 279, rolled a personal best series of 708 and posted a high average of 192 in the Inter-City Travel League. She is a former Findlay Area Women’s Bowling Association doubles, all-events and singles champion and was among the top three high-average bowlers for seven years in the prestigious Toledo Blade Queens League. Winkle once placed eighth in a professional Women’s Bowling Tournament and twice was a Bowling Proprietors Association of America All-Star as well as a BPAA match-game winner in Northwest Ohio on two occasions. She won actual pin-fall bowling titles in Bucyrus and Toledo and competed in a pro regional tournament at Imperial Lanes in Toledo. As a proprietor, Winkle was part owner of Timber Lanes from 1959-1983 and of Sportsman Lanes from 1975-1983.
