

Love of sports and pride in his community characterized Dr. Harry Miller’s 48-year tenure in McComb. He performed physicals for athletes and treated injuries that occurred during competition and he will long be remembered for his devotion to athletes which were such an important part of his life. A highlight of Dr. Miller’s service to McComb athletes was the 1983 state championship victory over Newark Catholic at the “Horseshoe” at Ohio State University. Both the McComb Panthers and the Ohio State Buckeyes were recipients of his devotion. Whether watching games from the crow’s nest, the sidelines or the bleachers, he was a most avid fan. In 1988, McComb honored Dr. Miller by naming its football field the “Doc Miller Field”. In 1981, the McComb reservoir was named the “Dr. Harry Miller Reservoir”. Dr. Miller is a native of Belmore. He graduated from Deshler High School, attended Defiance College and graduated from the Eclectic School of Medicine in Cincinnati. In 1932, Dr. Miller began private practice in McComb and established the Miller-McComb Hospital which operated for 25 years.
