Jack Winters

Dr. Jack Winters spent 38 years as an Ohio High School Athletic Association football official and 26 years of college football officiating Ohio Athletic and Mid-American Conference games. Over the years, Winters officiated the 1988 Hall of Fame Bowl in Tampa Bay; the 17-17 tie between Notre Dame and USC (1994) at the L.A.Coliseum; the 1995 Army-Notre Dame game at the Meadowlands; Notre Dame and Texas (1996) at Texas Stadium; and the 2000 Mid-American championship. He officiated the first-ever college football game in China (1991); the two-game series (1993-1994) between the University of Findlay and Hamburg Blue Devils; first-ever Football League of Europe game (1994) in Stockholm; and is still educating and helping the development of football officiating in Europe. Winters is a 1961 Ohio Wesleyan graduate where he was a 4-year golf letterman, and he was captain of the 1967 U.S. 8th Air Force golf team. He earned his doctorate in dentistry from Ohio State in 1965, is past president of the International Academy for Sports Dentistry (1997) and continues studies in the properly fitted mouthguard and possible reduction or prevention of concussions in contact sports.
