Jay Liles

Jay Liles has distinguished himself as a highly respected wrestling coach at Northern Montana College, winning back-to-back NAIA national championships in 1991 and 1992 after a runner-up finish in 1990. The Findlay native has twice been named NAIA Coach of the Year after coaching five national champions and 39 All-American performers as well as compiling a 121-43 record in eight years at Northern Montana. Liles coached in the 1992 Wrestling Coaches Association All-Star Classic, was head coach and team leader of the USA-NAIA All-Star team in 1990 on a cultural exchange to the USSR and Finland and was the Montana team coach for the USA Wrestling Junior Freestyle national championships three times. He has applied his talents as a summer camp clinician over the past 15 years. He began his coaching career at Arcadia where he had one state champion and 13 conference titles. During a two-year stint as a Miami, Ohio assistant, the Redskins won the 1984 Mid-American Conference title and produced three Division I All-Americans. As a participant, Liles was a Mid-American runner-up and national qualifier in 1978-79 and the winningest wrestler (1976-79) at Bowling Green State University. As a youngster, Liles was the Ohio AAU freestyle champion (1974-76), Junior World Freestyle placer (1974-75) and the Ohio U.S. Wrestling Federation state champion (1974-75).
