Jeff Wobser’s involvement in swimming has spanned parts of four decades, beginning with lessons at the YMCA as a six-year-old to becoming the head coach at Findlay High in 2002. Along the way he honed his skills under the tutelage of YMCA coach Larry Brown, beginning at age 8 and then setting several pool records and competing at four national YMCA meets. As a 14-16 age swimmer, Brown and coach Rock Snow helped Wobser win three AAU state titles as a Findlay Area Swim Team. At Findlay High, Wobser became a five-time All-American with a 50-freestyle state title in 1979, state 50 and 100 free crowns in 1980, and a 21.13 in the 50 free that qualified him for the U.S. national championships/Olympic trials. Wobser signed with Tennessee in 1980, finished his career at the 1982 Southeast Conference meet, was an undergraduate and graduate coach for the Vols, earned a degree at Tennessee in 1986 and was employed by Marathon Oil in 1987. After returning to Findlay, guided the Trojans’ girls’ team to a first-ever district championship in 2004.
