

Jerry Blevins is the fifth Hancock County Sports Hall of Fame inductee to play Major League Baseball. As an Arcadia student he played football, basketball and baseball, receiving Blanchard Valley Conference first team honors his senior year in baseball as a left-handed pitcher. After graduating in 2001, Jerry pitched three years for the University of Dayton baseball team, and as a junior he went 7-3 with an earned run average of 3.79. He was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 17th round of the 2004 MLB draft, making his major league debut with the Oakland A’s three years later. During his 13 seasons, mostly with the A’s and New York Mets, Jerry had a career record of 30-13 and an ERA of 3.54. In back-to-back seasons with the A’s (2012 and 2013) he had a combined record of 10-1 and a combined ERA of 2.80. And in 2017, Jerry went 6-0 with an ERA of 2.94 and struck out almost 13 batters per 9 innings. In 6 playoff games (3 with the A’s in 2012 and 3 with the Washington Nationals in 2014) he pitched 7 shutout innings giving up just one hit and facing only 22 batters. Jerry retired after the 2019 season and now lives in Findlay with his wife, Whitney, and their two sons.
