Jerry Mapes

McComb’s Jerry Mapes was a four-sport letter winner during his high school career, leading the Panthers to the 1983 Ohio Division V football championship. After earning honorable mention High School All-America honors as a senior, Mapes went on to earn four letters in football at Youngstown State University. During his prep career, Mapes was the 1983 Blanchard Valley Conference Player of the Year and was all-Ohio, all-Northwest District and all-BVC in 1982 and 1983. He was a 1,000-yard rusher in 1982 and 1983, scoring 205 points in his senior season. He lettered three years in track and basketball as well at McComb, was a 4-year letter winner and a 3-time all-BVC performer in baseball, a 1983 all-conference basketball player and a two-time all-BVC track competitor. At Youngstown, Maples helped lead the squad to the I-AA playoffs.
