Jim “Spike” Berry, one of Ohio’s most highly-regarded football coaches, has guided Cory-Rawson High School to a record over 26 seasons.

He has won more football games in Hancock County than any other high school coach.

The most notable milestone in Berry’s career includes six undefeated seasons, 10 Blanchard Valley Conference titles, and a 1968 team which was designated Class A state champion after going unbeaten and unscored upon.

Berry, who graduated from Bluffton High School (1956) and Bluffton College (1960), was named Ohio’s Class A Coach of the Year in 1968 and coached in the state’s all-star games in 1969 and 1978.

He was named Northwest District Class A Coach of the Year in 1968 by the Associated Press and United Press International.

Berry, the director of the Ohio-Pennsylvania high school all-star game in 1975, has been president of the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association twice.

He was inducted into the Bluffton College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1977.

As an athlete, Berry lettered 10 times each in three sports in high school and college. He quarterbacked Bluffton College to four Mid-Ohio League championships.
