

Jim ‘Spike’ Berry, one of Ohio’s most highly regarded football coaches. He has won more football games in Hancock County than any other high school coach. Jim was a charter member of the Hancock Sports Hall of Fame. He was inducted into the Hancock Sports Hall of Fame in 1986. Retired in 1990 from Cory-Rawson High School, serving as head football coach and principal during his 31-year education career. He guided Cory-Rawson to a 212-81-6 football record from 1960-1990. His 1968 Team was designated as the Class A State Championship after going undefeated and unscored on. He was named Ohio’s Class A Coach of the Year in 1968. He was selected as the 1968 Associated Press and United Press International Northern District Class A Coach of the Year. Recorded six undefeated seasons and 10 Blanchard Valley Conference titles. Ohio North-South All-Star games coach in 1969 and 1978. Directed Ohio-Pennsylvania high school all-star game in 1975. Coached 29 All-Ohio players and 5 High School All-Americans. 3-time Ohio High School Football Coaches Association president, serving the organization for 47 years. He coached 5 years at Allen East and 9 years at Bluffton High School. Inducted into the Bluffton College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1977. Quarterbacked Bluffton College to four Mid-Ohio League championships, earning four letters in football and six more in basketball and baseball. Earned 10 letters as a three-sport star at Bluffton High School.
