In two years, Jim Brockman, a 1973 Findlay High School graduate, went from being a backup infielder for the Trojans to becoming the starting shortstop for Morehead State University. In his four seasons as the starting shortstop for the Eagles, Jim collected 153 hits, including 29 doubles, 6 triples and 9 homeruns. His career batting average was .314. In 1974-77, he was a four-time Ohio Valley Conference first-team shortstop. During his junior season, Jim led the team in doubles and set the school record for runs scored, which stood for nine seasons. As a senior, MSU won the OVC championship by sweeping Middle Tennessee State 8-5 and 14-1. Jim’s grand slam home run provided the margin of victory in the first game. This put the Eagles in the NCAA tournament. In 1996, Jim was inducted into the MSU Athletics Hall of Fame, and in 2023 he was named to the Ohio Valley Conference 75th Anniversary Baseball Team. Jim was a math teacher at Rowan County High School in Morehead, KY. He and his wife, Lisa, have three children (all MSU grads) and 5 grandchildren.
