


Findlay’s Jim Kennedy was a four-year all-America selection at the University of Tennessee where he became the school’s only NCAA diving champion in 1976 when he won the 1-meter national title. The greatest diver in Vols history, Kennedy won seven Southeastern Conference crowns from 1973-76. His diving milestones include four national AAU titles and a first place in the Swedish Cup 3-meter competition in 1977. Kennedy placed sixth in the 1976 Olympic diving trials and finished fifth in 1980. He was also a member of the United States’ World Games team in 1978, finishing eighth among an elite field in Berlin. Kennedy was selected to compete for the United States’ team against the USSR in 1977-79. He finished second in the 3-meter event in 1977 and 1978. The seven-year head diving coach at Tennessee served as an assistant coach for the United States team at the 1981 World University Games in Romania. Kennedy, a 1972 Findlay High graduate, won the Ohio diving championship as a senior. He had previously captured YMCA national championships in both the 1- and 3-meter diving.
