Joe Metzger

Joe Metzger, an Arlington native, posted a 124-33-3 record in 16 seasons as Arlington High School football coach, winning five Blanchard Valley Conference championships and coaching 3 unbeaten, untied teams. The 1976 and 1979 Arlington teams, under Metzger’s guidance, were named United Press International state champions.

Metzger was twice named Northwest District Coach of the Year, and his peers honored him as the BVC’s top coach four times. Metzger served as Arlington girls basketball coach for 9 years, and his teams won 116 games, 3 sectional titles and one district runner-up trophy. He served five years as a head boys track coach and 12 years as junior high and freshmen basketball coach. He began the midget football program for county schools in 1968.

The Bluffton College graduate, who received a master’s degree from the University of Dayton, has been an official with local, conference and regional athletic associations.
