John Cindric

John F. Cindric was an outstanding undergraduate at Findlay College and professional athlete. Cindric came to Findlay College after enrolling at George Washington but was not allowed to pursue a pro baseball career. At Findlay, he was the center on the basketball team, a fullback in football and the freshmen baseball coach. He started his baseball career with the New York Yankees under the direction of legendary Lou Gehrig. Cindric went on to play first base for 8 years in Yankees, Boston Braves, St. Louis Browns and Baltimore Orioles farm systems, batting .339 in 1941 with 39 home runs. In 1939, he went to spring training and was signed by the Toledo Mud Hens and played with the Lancaster (Pa.) Orioles when George Kell was the third baseman in 1942. Cindric then coached and taught at Elida and New Bremen before being named superintendent of Beaverdam Schools. He served 35 years as a high school and college basketball and football official.
