

John Fekete was a “crashing halfback . . . 180 pounds of weaving dynamite who would explode through any opposition” as he became one of Ohio University’s all-time great football players. Fekete rolled up 922 yards and averaged 5.9 yards per carry, while scoring 11 touchdowns and hitting 18 of 31 passes for 207 yards during his best season. Fekete was named Little All-American honorable mention in 1942, an all-Ohio player in 1941 and 1942, an all-Buckeye Athletic Association pick both his junior and senior seasons and voted Outstanding Back by league coaches and media in 1942. He later signed with the Cleveland Browns following military service (WWII). He was inducted into the OU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1984. Fekete coached football and track during his career. He began his football and track career at Findlay High where in one game, Fekete accounted for 31 of the Trojans’ 35 points by rushing for four touchdowns, passing for another and running for an extra point. He was a 3-year varsity track member at FHS. Fekete retired as athletic director at Sunset High School in Hayward, California.
