John Jeffire

John Jeffire transformed the University of Findlay wrestling program into a national power during his eight-year tenure as the school’s head coach. The Roughnecks reached the pinnacle of the sport when they won the NAIA national title in 1995. The Detroit, Mich. native coached 5 NAIA national champions, 41 All-Americans and 6 Scholar-Athletes. Jeffire compiled a 70-22-2 dual-meet record and had five straight top 10 NAIA finishes. He earned NAIA Coach of the Year in 1995 when champion Maron Kharchilava was named the meet’s outstanding wrestler. Jeffire’s coaching career has included stints at Bowling Green and Heidelberg, in Massachusetts and on the international level in nine foreign countries. He was also an assistant on the USA Wrestling national team in 1992. As a competitor, Jeffire was a state freestyle and Greco-Roman runner-up, fourth in the Eastern elite nationals, twice trained with Swedish teams and was team captain at St. Lawrence, N.Y. University in 1985. He compiled a 10-year record of 156-61-3. The 1985 St. Lawrence graduate also holds master’s degrees from Northeastern University and Boston University.
