

John Stozich, a member of the Ohio House of Representatives, spent 14 seasons as Findlay High School’s head basketball coach. Stozich compiled a record of 357 wins and 210 losses during a 28-year coaching career. Between the 1964-65 and 1977-78 seasons, Stozich compiled a 193-99 mark at Findlay, including eight campaigns with 16 or more wins. Stozich’s success in the Buckeye Conference, which included three Coach of the Year selections, reached its peak when his teams won 27 of 28 games during the 1970-71 & 1971-72 seasons. Stozich’s teams won six sectional titles (1970, 72, 73, 75, 76 & 78). He guided the Trojans to four district finals (70, 72, 74 & 76), advancing to the regional Sweet 16 in ‘73 and ‘78. He won three Buckeye Conference titles (70-71, 71-72 & 78-79 and shared the title in 73-74. Stozich was inducted into the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame and coached the North to victory South in Ohio’s Class AAA all-star game in 1978. Before his stint at FHS, Stozich had seven-year coaching stints at Steubenville Central Catholic (69-67 record) and Uhrichsville (95-44 record). Stozich was named the Eastern District Coach of the Year in his final season at Uhrichsville while twice earning similar honors for the Northwest District.
