Julie Cole

Julie Cole produced her career-best year in 1987 when she earned over $35,000 and placed in the top 10, four times out of 24 Ladies Professional Golf Association tournament starts. Cole, born in Findlay, was injured most of the 1988 season. She finished in the top four at the 1987 Jamie Farr Toledo Classic, where she tied for fourth place and earned $10,687. Earlier in the year, Cole tied for 10th place at the Sarasota Classic and registered another top 10 finish at the Henredon Classic, where she posted a career-low round of 66 and tied for ninth. The following week, she tied for eighth at the Master-Card International. Cole, who joined the LPGA in 1985, finished the 1987 season ranked 57th on the Mazda-LPGA Series point standings. Prior to joining the LPGA, Cole played on the Futures Tour and the WPGT mini tour where she accumulated 20 tournament victories between 1980-85. In 1982, she was ranked in the top 10 on the European money list. Cole’s amateur career was limited since she did not play golf regularly until age 20. She played collegiate golf for one year and accepted a basketball scholarship to Ohio University. Cole lists finishing fourth in the Ladies British Open (1985) as her greatest thrill in golf. She qualified for the LPGA tour after 11 attempts.
