

Lee Himmeger had a basketball coaching career that spanned 33 years at three Ohio high schools, highlighted by state championships in 1957 and 1961 at Ayersville where his teams had three undefeated seasons, won 68 straight regular-season games, went 81-2 over a three-year period, made three state tournament appearances, won 20 sectionals, six district and three regional titles. In 24 seasons at Ayersville, he recorded 413 of his 527 career victories with stints at Upper Sandusky (90 wins) and Zanesville (24). He was also a principal (12 years), athletics director (23 years) and coached the 1961 Ayersville baseball team to the regional finals. He also coached track, tennis and golf. Himmeger was a 4-sport letter winner and 1,000-point scorer at Delphos Jefferson and at Findlay College (1956 graduate) before serving as the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association president (1966-68), director of District 7 (8 years), football official (20 years), named Class “A” Coach of the Year (1961 & 1962), co-managed the North-South Cage Classic (13 years) and coached the 1962 & ’77 North squads, inducted into the Findlay College (1972) and OHSBCA halls of fame, coached in the Dapper Dan Classic (1982) and received the FC Gold Medallion Award. Himmeger died in June 2003.
