Mark Ammons

Mark Ammons, a Findlay product, was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in 1973 and played for the Auburn Phillies in the Class A New York-Pennsylvania League. He was in the Phillies system through early 1975, before he joined the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. The 1968 Findlay High graduate was a standout player at Bowling Green State University. As a junior, Ammons earned first-team all-Mid-American Conference honors while playing an integral role on the 1972 Mid-American Conference championship team, which was 13th in the nation. He repeated as an all-MAC player during his senior season. At Findlay High, Ammons starred in basketball and baseball.  He set the school’s single season record for foul shooting accuracy (85.8%) on the court, while sparking the Trojans to their first Buckeye Conference baseball championship in 1968. While Ammons held several coaching positions, it was at Arcadia where he is perhaps best remembered. The school dedicated its baseball facility to him – the Mark Ammons Memorial Field.
