Matt Dodds

After a stellar 3-sport career at Riverdale High School, Matt Dodds became a solid pitcher for the University of Toledo. At Riverdale, Matt lettered 4 years in football and earned first team all-North Central Conference as a senior. In basketball, Matt averaged nearly 17 ppg for his career. His 491 points as a senior still ranks second in school history. He earned first team all-NCC again. But it was in baseball where he rewrote the record book. Offensively his senior year (1987) he led the NCC in batting average, stolen bases, triples, hits and runs scored. On the mound, he led the league in earned run average and strikeouts. As a junior, Matt struck out 151 batters which, at that time, was 8th best in Ohio high school baseball history. Matt was elected to the all-Northwest Central Conference first team in baseball three times. At Toledo, he lettered in baseball three times. As a sophomore he received all-Mid-American Conference honorable mention. As a junior, he led the Rockets’ pitching staff in starts, ERA and strikeouts. One of his more remarkable accomplishments was striking out 26 batters in a 12-inning American Legion game. Matt and his wife Amy live in Forest where they raised their four children.
