Nelson Bolden is the most accomplished running back in University of Findlay history. His records have withstood the test of time as well. The bruising 225-pound fullback bulled his way to a school record 4,009 yards during a stellar 4-year (1977-80) career. He piled up those yards on a school-record 953 carries. Bolden also established UF records for total touchdowns with 63 and total points with 378. His most productive season was in 1979 when he rushed for 1,351 yards and helped lead the Oilers to an NAIA Division II national championship. He is the only running back in UF history to record three 1,000-yard seasons. Bolden was a four-year letterman in both football and wrestling at Toledo St. Francis, earning all-district honors in football and all-city and all-state in wrestling. He finished third at 185 pounds in the state wrestling tournament as a senior. He is a member of the St. Francis Hall of Fame as well. As an AAU wrestler in 1974 he was the national 16-under freestyle and Greco-Roman champion. He also earned a spot on the AAU Junior Olympic team.
