

Rick Ferkel, known throughout the racing world as ‘The Ohio Traveler’, is one of the country’s all-time sprint car racing greats. During a career that has spanned 25 years, Ferkel has posted over 400 victories at racing facilities throughout the United States. Ferkel, one of the true ‘Outlaws’, was one of the originators of the highly successful ‘World of Outlaws’ circuit. He finished second in the national points standings during the organization’s first year of operation. Among Ferkel’s many titles have been the Pacific Coast Championship (1973), Western World Championship (1974), Missouri State Championship and the Minnesota State Fair Championship, both in 1977, and winner of the Eldora Nationals (1978). He was voted into the North Dakota Race Car Hall of Fame in 1987. In the early stages of his career, Ferkel was instrumental in developing the Tognotti-Ferkel chassis. Because of his racing goodwill, Ferkel has become known as “The Sprint Car Ambassador.”
