When Rick Phillips graduated from Vanlue High School he had earned an incredible 14 varsity letters, 4 football and baseball, and 3 in basketball and track. As a quarterback his senior year he was named to the Blanchard Valley Conference first team. In basketball, he led the Wildcats to the regional finals while being named to the BVC first team. In track, he placed 4th in the 120-yard-high hurdles and the 180-yard low hurdles at the state track championships. Then as a member of the Findlay College football team, Rick became a starter in the third game of his freshman year, led the Oilers in scoring as a junior, and had a team-leading receiving yards per catch average in his junior and senior seasons. It took 19 years for his 28.0 yards per catch to be eclipsed (by Scott McLaughlin). His prowess on the field earned Rick Little All American Honorable Mention as a junior and the honor of playing in the Ohio North-South Shrine football game. Rick also played one season of baseball, basketball, golf and track for the Oilers. He worked for Cummins, Inc, for almost 40 years. Rick and his wife, Donna, have been married for more than 40 years and have two children and one granddaughter. They are retired and live in Eastern Tennessee.
