Roger Renz

Roger Renz was a highly-successful basketball coach at three northwest Ohio high schools – Continental, Defiance and Findlay. In 1959, Roger graduated from Fairview High School (Defiance County) and as a senior he averaged about 15 points per game in basketball and played shortstop and hit cleanup in baseball. He began his coaching career as a varsity basketball coach at Continental, where he was named the Putnam County Coach of the Year twice. His 1971 team won the PCL title and ended the season as Ohio’s 5th ranked Class A team. His Defiance teams won three Western Buckeye League championships, and two teams advanced to the Class AAA regional tournament. At the helm of Findlay High, Roger’s teams earned two Buckeye Conference runner up honors and two titles. His 1980 and 1981 teams advanced to the regional tournament. Overall, he led his teams to a 334-165 record. He was named the Buckeye Conference Coach of the Year; twice he was selected as the District 8 Coach of the Year; and in 1980 he was named the Northwest Ohio Class AAA Coach of the Year. Roger and Alene had two children, Robin and Rick (Glenda), 3 grandchildren Clay (Tiffany), Karly and Hunter, and one great grandson, Cooper.
