Ruth Smith, who is serving her 14th consecutive year as president of the Ohio Women’s Bowling Association, has been one of the major figureheads in promoting bowling in Hancock County. Her contributions, both behind-the-scenes and on the lanes, are exhaustive. Smith was selected as a charter member to the Findlay Area Women’s Bowling Association’s Hall of Fame in 1984. Although she is a 27-year member in the national 600 Bowling Club, while competing in 27 state and 22 national tournaments, it’s been creating the opportunity for others to bowl which has given her some of her greatest satisfaction. Smith helped organize Junior bowling in Findlay in 1962 and has served as director of two national organizations – American Junior Bowling Congress and the Young American Bowling Alliance. She has been a coach and director of Bowling for Special Olympics and started the first pre-school program for the children with special needs in Hancock County.
