


Sam Bello started as Ohio’s youngest head coach (22-years-old) in football and wrestling at North Baltimore in 1968 and has dedicated parts of five decades producing winners in both sports. In 1972, he began the wrestling program at Bluffton, had a fifth-place state participant 2 years later and helped coach the Pirates to back-to-back Northwest Conferences football titles (1974-75). After 10 years away from education, Bello coached a state wrestling champion at Sandusky St. Mary’s in 1987-88 and moved to Findlay High a year later. At FHS (1989-97). Bello continued as a math teacher, assisted in football and had a state champ and national player, 22 district and 2 other state qualifiers with 4 conference champions and was a two-time conference coach of the year. He also coached defensive ends and outside linebackers on two University of Findlay national championship teams (1992 & 1995) and coached Ben Roethlisberger as a freshman quarterback at Findlay High (1997-99).
