Steve Brooks

Steve Brooks achieved what all coaches dream of when he coached the Indiana Wesleyan women’s basketball to the 2006-2007 NAIA Division II championship and became the first team to finish an undefeated season with a record 38 straight wins. For his achievement, Brooks was named the NAIA and WBCA Coach of the Year. In nine seasons at IWU, Brooks’ teams have won 5 Mid Central Conference regular-season and 3 MCC tournament titles; won the National Christian College Athletic Association national title in 2001-02, made 5 NAIA national tournament appearances, including the Elite Eight in 2004-05, and were No.1-ranked during the 2005-06 season. He has a record of 237-81 at IWU. Brooks, who has 309-197 won-loss record, began his coaching career as an assistant at Liberty-Benton High School before becoming an assistant at Taylor University, and gaining his first head coaching post at Houghton, N.Y. where his 1991 team had a best-ever record of 18-9 and first NAIA ranking. He then returned to Taylor as an assistant before moving on to IWU. Brooks is a Findlay native and starred as a basketball player for the Trojans. He was a 3-year starter and 4-year letterman at Taylor where he earned his bachelor’s degree in 1980. He later got his master’s at Ball State.
