Steve Williman

Under Steve Williman’s tutelage Liberty-Benton became one of the most highly successful and most respected boys’ basketball programs in the state, achieving the ultimate goal with an Ohio High School Athletic Association Division IV state championship in 1995. In 19 stellar years, Williman coached L-B to ten 20-win seasons and a statewide ranking each of those campaigns, finishing as the No. 2-ranked team during a 27-0 run to the state title in 1994-95 and a 23-1 season in 2000-2001. He has a 338-104 won-loss record at L-B. The 2000 National Federation of Coaches Association Ohio Coach of the Year saw his Eagles’ teams win 9 Blanchard Valley Conference championships, capturing 15 sectional and 8 district titles as well as finishing as regional runner-up in 1998. Williman is an 8-time BVC and 3-time district coach of the year and was chosen to coach in both the Ohio North-South and Ohio-Kentucky all-star games in 1996. He also coached the 1992 L-B golf team to a fourth-place finish. The 1980 Findlay College graduate began his coaching career at Old Fort (1980-1983), served as a graduate assistant at Bowling Green State University in 1983-84 and was head basketball coach at Galion (1984-86) before taking over at Liberty-Benton.
