Ted Hipsher played basketball at Findlay High School during one of the best eras of Trojan basketball.
The 1973 graduate helped FHS sculpt a 53-11 record during his three varsity campaigns. His sophomore season, when the team finished the regular season 18-0, Ted split time between the JV and varsity teams. He became a starter the following season, averaging 7.5 points and 6 rebounds per game. The 6th-ranked Trojans won a second straight Buckeye Conference title and advanced to the district finals before falling to the top-ranked Celina Bulldogs.
As a senior, Ted averaged about 20 points per game, led the team to its first regional appearance in 22 years, and erupted for 43 points against Fremont Ross. He was named to the Associated Press Class AAA All-Ohio first team and the United Press International (coaches’ poll) Class AAA All-Ohio second team. Ted was also all-Buckeye Conference, AP Class AAA Northwest District Player of the Year, and the area’s representative in the Ohio North/South All-Star game.
Ted continued his basketball career as a guard for the Eastern Michigan Hurons. As a part time starter in his sophomore year, he averaged 5.5 points per game and scored the winning basketball at the buzzer against the University of Detroit.
Ted retired from his job as a Corporate Paralegal in 2021. He and his wife, Marla, reside in Columbus.
